I have talked a lot about doing keyword research and
developing a linking strategy for you website, but I haven’t necessarily
explained why these are so important.
This article will hopefully clarify why you are spending so much time
doing the research and linking to your site in all of the right ways.
First I want to clarify that all links to your site are good
and worth something, but some are better than others. The best links are from pages that are
completely relevant to the subject of the page they are linking to. So let’s take this article for instance it is
titled article writing and let’s say someone who has a blog about ducks decides
they like this article and they link to it from their site. That link is okay because someone may stumble
across it and click on it, come to this site and also read this article. That link is helpful but from a page about ducks
is not going to help this page rank in the search engines for that title. What we want are links from relevant pages,
for instance another page that has the same title and is about the same
subject.
The best way to get links that are 100% relevant and will
help build the ranking for this page is to build them yourself. You can see from the mind map that I use
primarily 3 sites to do exactly that.
Those sites are peoplefuel.com, hubpages.com, and squidoo.com. All three of those sites allow you to publish
your articles about any subject and link back to your own site. It takes time and effort to write about the
same subject four times but you don’t have to do all of the articles at
once. You should always of course write
the article for your site first and then for the other sites, but you can do
the other articles over the course of a month or two and slowly build your
page.
For clarity I also do recommend that you link directly to
the page on your site with the article and not just to the front page of your
site. That is especially important if
you have different subjects that you are writing about on your site. It may not be as important if your entire
site is about one single subject and your keyword appears in every article of
your site.
Don’t limit yourself to just those three sites if you happen
to be a prolific writer. Other sites
that are extremely valuable are Wordpress.com, weebly.com, tumblr.com, and
ezinearticles.com. But if I were going
to limit myself to just 3 I would choose those.
Peplefuel.com is my site and I recommend it for a number of
reasons. First because I am working hard
every day to build links to that site, and internal links are important to me
also. This means that I will be building
links to your articles in order to build up the site as a whole. That helps both of us tremendously.
I hope that this article clarifies how you should be
building links to your site. It is not
the quantity of links that matters it is the quality of the links.
